2020 Spring Middle School Training

Email Our Program Coordinator for Summer Rowing Details
WBC’s Middle School Rowing Program is a fun, low key way to learn and/or develop the basics of rowing.  We are open to middle school students from all schools, 11 years old or older.  We encourage all those who have done a learn to row or already participated in our middle school program to continue to develop your skills by joining us again. Our Spring Middle School Program will primarily focus on sculling (2 oars for each rower), but if the group is large enough we will also learn sweep rowing (1 oar for each rower).  We like to start all our young rowers out with sculling;  in sculling you get a better feel for the movement of the boat and your movement in the boat.  It is also a bit better for young bodies to learn sculling as you build both sides of your body equally.  Our main goal is to give the rowers the basic skills that will allow them to be good, strong rowers in high school if they choose to continue to row.
It is also a goal as the weather gets nicer and the water warmer to give all the rowers an opportunity to row by themselves in a gig (a wider, flatter bottomed single) or a regular 1x.
We look forward to you joining us for another great year on the water.

The middle school program consists of at least 10 sessions that will kick off on Saturday, April 11th, with practices running through Sunday, May 24th. Thirteen sessions are listed below to ensure we get the minimum of 10 if practices need to be cancelled for any reason. Practices will start at 12:00p (drop off no earlier than 11:45am) & wrap up by 2:00p (pick up no later than 2:15p). If the weather is 100% cooperative, & our coaches find themselves available for all 13 sessions we will hold 13 practices :). If the weather is SUPER uncooperative & we need to add practices due to more than 3 cancellations, we will extend accordingly. Scheduled dates listed below, please note these are subject to change due to coach & equipment availability:

Practice is RAIN OR SHINE! The safety of your child is our number one priority; if the river is too high or too fast for rowing we will still hold practice but the athletes will be kept on land. If for any reason we need to cancel practice (typically we only do this because of flooding) we will contact participants via email.

The cost of the 2020 Middle School Program is $475.

CLICK HERE for directions and information about parking. Space is very limited; carpools are highly encouraged! For parents who choose to stay for practice we are asking you to move your vehicle to one of our satellite lots in order to leave room for club members & those juniors who drive themselves. While our enrollment has continued to grow, our parking lot, unfortunately, has remained the same size. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.
