Spring is the primary competitive season for high school rowing. Starting in late February, all rowers will move to the water and practice 6 days a week to begin preparing for competition. Athletes compete in shorter, 2000 meter races, in boats of different sizes depending on their age and skill level; sometimes in more than one boat per regatta. The season is focused on qualifying boats for the USRowing Youth National Championships. The regional championship is held near Princeton, NJ in mid-May; Youth Nationals is held in different venues around the country in early June.
