This six-week course (July 11-August 17) is an opportunity for rowers with at least one competitive season* to add in summer mileage and receive coaching without the time commitment and stress of racing. The focus is a technical one with competition between boats thrown in as a way to increase speed & put technical changes to the test.
*Those athletes who complete one of the June WBC Learn to Row camps may participate upon the recommendation of a WBC coach.
Rowers participating in this program will be expected to:
- Attend as many practices as possible. Practices will be held Tuesday-Thursday, 4:00-6:00p (drop off no earlier than 3:45p, pick up by 6:15p). While attendance is not mandatory, the coaches do need to be informed of any major changes in the athletes’ schedules so they can plan boat assignments and practice plans accordingly.
- Be flexible in the lineups. Because of the fluid nature of this program, athletes will row a variety of different hulls with a variety of different rowers. The emphasis will be on sculling, but if numbers permit there may be some sweep rowing as well.
- Have fun!~ This program is truly one of a kind in Philadelphia. The coaching is top notch, while the atmosphere remains light. There is a focus on technique and gaining mileage that will prepare any level of Junior rower for the 2017-18 season.
Director of Junior Programs is Joe Sullivan. Head Coach of Technical Training is Susan Hermann.
The fee for this 6 week program is $605* if paid by check ($620 if paid by credit card/PayPal). This fee includes the yearly HRC facilities fee.
*If an athlete has participated in ANY 2017 program at Hines Rowing Center (this includes all WBC programs & all HRC scholastic teams) they have already paid the yearly HRC fee; the total for these families will be $555/athlete & must be paid by check.
Please send checks to Whitemarsh Boat Club, PO Box 944, Conshohocken, PA 19428; please indicate “summer junior recreational” on the memo line.
