WE CAN ROW

WeCanRow – Philly is a rowing program developed specifically for breast cancer survivors to help them regain control over their bodies at a time when they may be feeling vulnerable, to encourage them to be active in order to boost energy levels that may have dropped during treatment, and to connect them with other women who have undergone similar experiences through a healthy and exhilarating sport.

Located at Hines Rowing Center with the enthusiastic support of founder Lois Trench-Hines, this new program partners with and utilizes the resources of Whitemarsh Boat Club.

WeCanRow – Philly was organized in 2018 as part of the national WeCanRow program founded in 2002 in Boston. The stated goals of the national program are to help women who have been treated for breast cancer to:

  • Develop healthy and strong bodies
  • Become active participants in their own recovery
  • Assert control over their bodies
  • Rediscover the joy of movement
  • Contribute to a mutually empowering recovery team

WeCanRow – Philly meets once a week on Wednesday evenings. No experience is necessary. All ages and levels of fitness are welcome. Rowing is a low impact, lifelong sport that can be enjoyed well into your 90s. Our coaches have experience working with breast cancer survivors and will teach you everything in a friendly and supportive environment. We do require a doctor’s note indicating that you are cleared for physical activity.
